Manifesto:

I have always been passionate about advancing the science and everyday practice of medical ultrasound. It is a constantly evolving field, and I’m excited by the opportunity to help shape its future. I value the work of BMUS, not just in promoting excellence in ultrasound, but in bringing together professionals from a wide range of disciplines. The inclusive, collaborative spirit is something I strongly believe in.
I’m keen to contribute to BMUS’s strategic direction and help expand its educational outreach, especially in ways that support both new and experienced practitioners. I would welcome the opportunity to be involved in the Annual Scientific Meeting and Special Interest Groups, as these spaces are important to keep the profession dynamic and responsive to change.
I’m also enthusiastic about promoting best practices and encouraging innovation — whether that’s through teaching, research, or supporting clinical teams. Ultrasound has so much potential to improve patient care, and I want to be part of the effort to ensure it is used to its fullest. Being a BMUS council member would be a meaningful way to contribute to that mission.

Experience:

With over a decade of clinical experience in medical ultrasound, I bring a strong foundation in both hands-on practice and education. My career began in clinical ultrasound, covering general medicine, obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound. Later, as a clinical educator, I supported the development of multidisciplinary trainees and promoted high standards of patient care. Now, as a Senior Lecturer in Medical Ultrasound at the University of Cumbria, I am involved in curriculum development and academic delivery, helping to shape the next generation of ultrasound professionals.
I’m passionate about advancing the science and practice of ultrasound and have a keen interest in promoting innovation and best practices across the field. My academic role has also involved research supervision, peer review, and contributions to scholarly publications, which I believe align well with BMUS’s commitment to excellence and multidisciplinary collaboration.
I’ve had experience with strategic planning and governance through my involvement in university committees and my previous NHS leadership role, and I’m enthusiastic about applying these skills to support BMUS’s aims. I’m particularly interested in contributing to the Annual Scientific Meeting and Special Interest Groups, and in helping expand educational outreach to a wider audience. I see the BMUS Council as a meaningful platform to help shape the future of ultrasound practice and education.

Background Information:

Because of both my clinical and academic experience, I’m committed to promoting inclusion within healthcare education. I believe that ultrasound should be accessible and inclusive — both in terms of who delivers it and who receives it — and I actively work to embed these values into my teaching and mentoring.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside early-career professionals and students, supporting their development both clinically and academically. I find this work incredibly rewarding and see it as a key part of building a strong, forward-thinking ultrasound community.
I’m also open to engaging in outreach, advocacy, and fundraising activities that support BMUS’s charitable aims. I understand the importance of raising awareness and building connections beyond the immediate professional circle, and I’d be happy to contribute in these areas.
In terms of professional involvement, I currently represent the Society of Radiographers on the CASE Committee, which gives me valuable insight into accreditation, governance, and collaborative working across organisations. This experience deepens my understanding of strategic decision-making and quality assurance in ultrasound education — perspectives I’d bring to my role on BMUS Council.
