Clinical Audit in Ultrasound: Guidance Document
30th Jan 2026
BMUS introduces comprehensive new audit guidance for members
BMUS has launched Clinical Audit in Ultrasound: Guidance Document, a new member-only resource designed to support high-quality, evidence-based ultrasound practice. The guidance provides a clear, structured framework to help individuals and departments plan, conduct and evaluate clinical audits in a meaningful and effective way.
Clinical audit plays a vital role in ensuring ultrasound services are safe, effective and aligned with national standards. This new guidance takes members step by step through the full audit cycle, from selecting a topic and setting standards to analysing results, developing action plans and completing re-audit. Each stage is clearly explained, supporting both practical application and a deeper understanding of audit within quality assurance.
The document includes a wide range of example audits across general and specialist practice, alongside guidance on professional roles, multidisciplinary collaboration and governance. Members also gain exclusive access to downloadable audit templates to support consistent data collection and reporting.
The guidance is available now via the BMUS Members’ Area.
