Manifesto:

I am applying to join the BMUS Council because I am passionate about advancing ultrasound practice and supporting the sonography profession in the UK. With over 20 years of clinical and leadership experience in radiology and sonography, I have gained extensive expertise in clinical governance, quality assurance, training, and multidisciplinary collaboration. In my current role as Lead Superintendent Sonographer, I oversee service delivery, lead audits, mentor colleagues, and contribute to shaping best practice across a wide range of ultrasound specialities, including MSK, gynaecology, and general imaging.

I believe BMUS plays a vital role in education, policy influence, and professional representation, and I would like to contribute to this work. My priorities as a Council member would be to:

Promote continuous professional development and mentorship for sonographers at all stages of their careers.

Strengthen quality assurance and audit processes to ensure safe, high-quality imaging.

Support BMUS in embracing innovation, including digital tools and artificial intelligence, to enhance service delivery.

Act as a strong advocate for sonographers, ensuring their voices are represented in national discussions.

Joining the BMUS Council would allow me to give back to the profession, share my expertise, and work collaboratively to shape the future of ultrasound practice.

Experience:

I bring over two decades of clinical, leadership, and governance experience in radiology and ultrasound, with a strong record of advancing practice, quality, and education. As Lead Superintendent Sonographer, I manage service delivery, supervise and mentor a large sonography team, and lead audits of over 3,500 ultrasound cases annually to ensure compliance with national standards and continuous quality improvement.

My experience extends beyond clinical leadership to strategic roles, including participation in senior management teams, recruitment, and service development. I have successfully introduced structured audit programmes, peer review systems, and training initiatives that have enhanced consistency, safety, and patient outcomes. I also have experience in quality improvement projects, having acted as Quality Coordinator in a hospital setting and contributed to achieving CBAHI accreditation.

Alongside service leadership, I have a strong background in education and professional development, organising regular teaching sessions, supervising junior sonographers, and leading case-based learning activities. I also have an interest in digital innovation and artificial intelligence in ultrasound, which I believe will play a central role in the future of the profession.

This combination of governance, training, innovation, and clinical expertise enables me to contribute meaningfully to the BMUS Council and its vision for advancing ultrasound practice.

Background Information:

In addition to my leadership and clinical roles, I have a strong track record of contributing to professional development, quality assurance, and international best practice in ultrasound. My background includes serving as Quality Improvement Project Lead in Saudi Arabia, where I coordinated departmental performance improvement initiatives and supported accreditation by CBAHI. I was also accredited for JCI (Joint Commission International) within the Radiology Department in Mecca, reflecting my experience in aligning local services with global standards.

I am professionally registered with both the Royal College of Radiologists and the Register of Clinical Technologists, demonstrating my commitment to maintaining high standards of accountability and professional excellence. I also hold a Postgraduate Certificate in MSK Ultrasound, complementing my broad expertise across general, gynaecological, and MSK imaging.

Beyond technical expertise, I bring skills in communication, mentorship, and leadership development, supported by qualifications in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), communication skills, and professional training. These enable me to support others, foster inclusive teamwork, and promote continuous improvement.

Finally, I am deeply motivated to contribute to the strategic vision of BMUS, not only by sharing my experience but also by engaging with innovation, diversity, and the future direction of ultrasound practice.
