Manifesto:

I would greatly value the opportunity to serve as a BMUS Council member. I am passionate about improving standards in ultrasound practice and education, promoting skill mix, and fostering collaboration across MDTs. My involvement in incident management has highlighted the importance of quality assurance and patient safety—areas where I believe BMUS can continue to lead.

Having reached a stage in my career where I can combine extensive clinical experience with a strategic perspective, I feel I am well placed to contribute to the society’s vision. I am committed to helping shape the future of BMUS and advancing excellence in ultrasound practice.

Experience:

I have built a long career in ultrasound imaging, with expertise that spans multiple modalities. As one of the few radiology consultants who continues to specialise in fetal medicine scanning, I bring rare hands-on expertise and a deep understanding of this complex field. My skills also extend to CT and MRI, which enhances my ability to correlate findings and provide a comprehensive evaluation. In addition, my current role in breast cancer screening and general radiology has given me broad experience of multidisciplinary team (MDT) working and strengthened my understanding of ultrasound’s role across different specialities.

Background Information:

I have been a Consultant Radiologist since 2003, with a Diploma in Advanced Obstetric Ultrasound (2002) and extensive experience in fetal medicine ultrasound, including correlation with fetal MRI. Over the past two decades, I have been closely involved in the Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme (FASP), having served as part of the Greater Manchester FASP team at the inception of nuchal translucency scanning. I am currently a member of the Greater Manchester Antenatal and Newborn Screening Board and also a professional member of ARC.

As a Consultant in Fetal Medicine at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, I play an active role in multidisciplinary team discussions for fetal medicine and complex obstetric/placental cases across the North West region. This has given me significant experience in high-level collaborative working, quality assurance, and the practical challenges of delivering advanced ultrasound services within the NHS.

My background reflects both breadth and depth of expertise in ultrasound, from frontline clinical practice to regional programme development and governance. I am also passionate about education and enhancing learning across ultrasound. I believe these experiences make me well qualified to contribute to BMUS, supporting its mission to advance standards, education, and excellence in ultrasound practice.
