LUMPS AND BUMPS: A QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
By Stephen Moore, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
Aims:
The aim of this poster was to provide an easy to read, quick reference tool for sonographers to use in the day to day working environment. Inspiration was taken from the quick reference guide poster for thyroid nodule classification.
Many sonographers experience requests for lumps and bumps when this may not be their primary specialty, as such lack the confidence to report and image these effectively. This poster aims to offer sonographers with a resource which they can consult and provides them with support in the imaging and reporting of lumps and bumps. The poster covers example features of benign, intermediate and malignant lesions and offers advice on when to escalate findings. This poster should not replace formal Musculoskeletal (MSK) training, but can be used as a tool to support sonographers in clinical practice where their confidence might be lacking.
Methods Used:
A review of relevant literature from scientific databases and academic books was compiled to write this informative poster.
Results and Conclusion:
This poster concisely summarises the background of lumps and bumps in MSK ultrasound. Information included in this poster highlights the incidence of sarcoma development in the general population as well as covers correct, dynamic imaging techniques, and offers advise on how to report imaging findings. Furthermore, this poster outlines when to escalate findings and the common features associated with benign, intermediate, and malignant lesions.
