BMUS is pleased to provide a series of member-only lectures exploring the Second Victim Phenomenon in sonography. Designed for sonographers, radiologists and other healthcare professionals, these resources examine the emotional, psychological and professional impact that diagnostic uncertainty, adverse outcomes and diagnostic errors can have on practitioners, while highlighting the importance of supportive cultures, reflective practice and patient safety. |
We are grateful to Dr Elaine Gardiner, Programme Lead for the MSc Medical Ultrasound programme at Glasgow Caledonian University, for developing this lecture series specifically for BMUS. Drawing on her clinical, educational and research experience in diagnostic error, sonographer wellbeing and second victim experiences, Dr Gardiner provides a practical and evidence-based insight into an often overlooked aspect of ultrasound practice, helping practitioners better understand and support themselves and their colleagues following adverse events.
