Sonographers are increasingly working in demanding conditions, with workforce shortages and more complex workloads. Delivering compassionate care in clinical settings can sometimes feel challenging. In this study day, we will explore the vital role of compassion and communication in ultrasound practice. This event aims to support all ultrasound users. It is ideal for sonographers and ultrasound managers who may have experienced difficult conversations, patient complaints and other adverse events in ultrasound. This course would also benefit newly qualified or trainee sonographers who want to embed good practice and gain the confidence to manage difficult situations in ultrasound effectively.
Sessions will focus on managing conflict through effective communication, delivering unexpected news sensitively in both obstetric and non-obstetric settings. We will explore current topics with essential discussions on equality, diversity and inclusion, including transgender healthcare and health inequalities. This will be embodied around personal well-being and self-care, which is paramount to the delivery of compassionate care in healthcare settings. The study day promises to be engaging and reflective, ensuring participants are equipped with the practical steps, emotional awareness and personal development to support ongoing compassionate, confident and inclusive ultrasound practice.
