This is a compact, comprehensive and user-friendly educational tool, presented in modular format and taking approximately 60-90 minutes of learning time.  It is ideal for students studying for a Post graduate Certificate in obstetric ultrasound and for qualified practitioners needing to obtain the required theoretical knowledge in the measurement of fetal NT, prior to contributing to local NHS ‘combined’ screening programmes for Trisomy 21.

The contents of the resource are congruent with the policy recommendations of the Department of Health, in the NHS Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme – Screening for Down’s syndrome: Model of Best Practice 2007-2010 (2008).  It is hoped CASE accredited ultrasound course Programme Leaders will incorporate this nationally produced resource into their student curriculum, to assist in delivering a screening service based on principles of equity, uniformity and high standards.

The resource was originally developed by a clinical group from Newcastle University & Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.  Led by a team from the NHS FASP and with the invaluable input of University Lecturers, Lecturer Practitioners and CASE representatives, this resource has been extensively modified and improved for a national target audience.
