The British Medical Ultrasound Society supports the publication of Dr Meire’s article reviewing the risks and benefits of nuchal thickness screening in the August 2007 edition of its journal, Ultrasound. BMUS strongly supports the view that any diagnostic test should be scientifically validated before being used in healthcare.

However, it has not conducted its own review of the evidence relating to nuchal thickness screening and currently has no view on the usefulness or otherwise of this technique.
