Membership of BMUS
Current membership totals over 2400 from both the UK and overseas (approx.10% of members are from outside the UK), consisting of the following specialist groups :
  • Sonographers (49%)
  • Radiologists (25%)
  • Obstetricians (12%)
  • Physicists/Scientists (5%)
  • Others including cardiologists, paediatricians, midwives, MTOs, Vets, GPs and equipment manufacturers.
The BMUS membership year runs from 1 January- 31 December regardless of when you join. A renewal notice will automatically be sent out in January. You will be sent any mailings you had missed earlier in the year.
Advantages of membership
  • Membership of a truly multi-disciplinary society fostering the exchange of information and ideas between its members.
  • Quarterly BMUS Journal, which contains scientific articles, information about the Society's meetings and committees, reports and diary dates.
  • Reduced registration fees at the Annual Scientific Meeting and the special topic meetings and meetings organised by WFUMB and EFSUMB
  • Discounts on BMUS publications and Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology, the official journal of WFUMB.
  • Eligibility to apply for the society's scholarships and to influence the Society's affairs by voting at the AGM.
Annual cost of membership of this Society
BMUS IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE MEMBERSHIP YEAR JAN – DEC 2010

The Membership fees for the coming year will be: -
Consultant / GP / Veterinarian: £90.00
Consultant Sonographer / Overseas member / Consultant Clinical Scientist: £80.00
Sonographers / Doctor in training / Clinical Scientist / Physicist: £70.00
Technical staff / AAA Technician: £60.00
Retired Member / Unwaged Member: £40.00
Student Membership £20 *

*BMUS offers a reduced fee (£20.00 for 2010), for ONE YEAR ONLY, to students/trainees on a recognised UK based training scheme involving medical ultrasound (CASE accredited course). This membership also entitles the student to half price registration at one Annual Scientific Meeting within the first two years of membership. PLEASE NOTE: you cannot apply for student membership online, as your form MUST be signed by your course leader. Please download the student application form below to join in this category.

Once Student Membership has run for one year, it will automatically revert to ‘Ordinary’ Membership and will be charged at this rate.

Please ensure you enclose the correct payment.

The membership year runs from 1st January to 31st December and includes all mailings & Journals for that year.

Application forms for membership can be downloaded from the links below. The application forms are available as PDF Documents.

There are 2 kinds of application forms, regular (incl overseas) and student. Your chosen form will need to be PRINTED out, filled in and posted back to BMUS at the address below.

Student applications will require the signature of a Course Leader and both sets of forms must be fully completed and signed by the applicant (including the payments section).
