BMUS Pump Priming Research Grant:   PLEASE NOTE: THIS GRANT IS NOT CURRENTLY RUNNING
Research Grant Terms and Conditions
  1. The British Medical Ultrasound Society supports the promotion of medical research using diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound. This award is to fund the development of a new research project or a pilot study that may be used to power a larger study.
  2. Applications are welcome for this open bid from current members of the British Medical Ultrasound Society.
  3. The maximum grant awarded is £5,000.
  4. A research proposal is intended to convince peer reviewers that you have a worthwhile project and you have the capability and work-plan to complete the study. New applicants are advised to seek help from a senior member of their department on how to write a grant proposal. Several websites also explain how to improve your proposal writing. Do a Google search such as 'Writing a good Research proposal'. If further advice is needed applicants may contact the BMUS office.
  5. On completion of the work, the successful applicant will be required to submit a report to the Scientific and Education Committee and present the findings at the BMUS annual scientific meeting (ASM).
  6. Travel and subsistence to BMUS ASM to present the results of the project should be included in the application (maximum £350).
  7. An assessment panel comprising of members of the BMUS Scientific and Education Committee will consider applications. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application as soon as possible after this date. The decision of BMUS Scientific and Education Committee is final and binding.

BMUS Awards for Oral & Poster Presentations
BMUS offers up to 3 awards of 1 year of free membership of the society, and certificates for the best oral presentations or proffered scientific papers at the Annual Scientific Meeting. These are judged in terms of scientific content and quality of presentation.

The aim of the awards is to support activities in the field of medical ultrasound, which advance the work or personal development of the winner. Winners are encouraged to submit their work for publication in the BMUS journal, Ultrasound and to provide a short report (preferably a picture and up to 150 words) showing how the award was used.

Up to 3 awards of 1 year of free membership of the society are also awarded to the best scientific posters exhibited at the Annual Scientific Meeting. These are judged on their scientific content and quality and standard of presentation.

  Euroson Young Investigator's Award
This award is given at each EUROSON Congress for the best paper(s) presented in the Young Investigator's Session. The European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) invites each member society to nominate one of its young members (< 35 years of age) to take part in the session. BMUS offers this nomination for one of the best oral presentations of a scientific paper at the BMUS Annual Scientific Meeting by a young member of the Society. The individual selected will be offered free registration by the organising committee of the EUROSON Congress, and will have their travel, accommodation and other essential expenses paid by BMUS. An abstract must be provided conforming to the requirements of the EUROSON Congress. Papers presented in the EUROSON Young Investigator's session are assessed in terms of scientific content and quality of presentation and up to 2 prizes of 1,000 Euro awarded.
