Edinburgh is located at the heart of the Scottish motorway network and therefore it can be surprisingly quick and easy to reach by car. If you are traveling from the north of Scotland, Edinburgh is only 3 hours from Inverness and just over 2 hours from Aberdeen. Journey times from England are just as good; you drive from Birmingham in about 5.5 hours, from Manchester and York in about 4 hours, and the city is just 2.5 hours from Newcastle.

Edinburgh Waverly Station
Edinburgh is easy to reach by train. The Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) line is the fastest intercity railway in the UK, with a journey time of just under 5 hours between Edinburgh Waverley Station and London King's Cross.

 Waverly StationScotRail operate an overnight service, the Caledonian Sleeper, between London (Euston) and Edinburgh 7 nights a week.

Edinburgh train station has great rail links to other major cities too. York, Newcastle, Inverness and Aberdeen are all about 2 hours away by train, and Glasgow is just 50 minutes away on the First ScotRail shuttle service which leaves Waverley train station every 15 minutes.

Edinburgh is one of the UK's fastest growing airports, offering direct and connecting flights from many UK, European and International airlines.

The flight from London takes around an hour and there are over 40 flights from London airports every day. Regular services arrive in Edinburgh from other major UK cities and there are frequent scheduled flights from 40 European airports, including Amsterdam, Paris, Munich, Frankfurt and Zurich.

Ryanair has also recently expanded its base at Edinburgh Airport, with two new aircraft serving 15 new routes from Europe, adding to the existing eight already in place. There are now 23 routes to and from Edinburgh. Ryanair now has a significant route network direct from Edinburgh, connecting the Scottish capital with destinations in Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Sweden and Slovakia.

Continental Airlines offers a daily direct service from New York's Newark airport, while Delta Airlines offer a daily direct flight between Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Edinburgh. Further transatlantic flights arrive at Glasgow International Airport, one hour's drive away.


To and from the airport
- BUS

The Airlink 100 operates a frequent bus service (every 10 minutes at peak times) between Edinburgh Airport and the city centre, with designated stops en route. Journey time is about 25 minutes and tickets cost £3.00 single and £5.00 return. www.flybybus.com

- SHUTTLE BUS
Edinburgh Shuttle provides a fleet of spacious seven seat mini-coaches and runs every 15 minutes between the airport and Edinburgh Shuttle's City zone with pick up and drop off at any address - home, hotel, business or conference venue.
Vehicles arrive and depart from outside the terminal building at UK Arrivals next to the Edinburgh Shuttle sales kiosk. Passengers without reservations are accepted subject to availability. Fares are fixed at £9 one way for an individual, door to door, with reduced rates for passengers traveling together to the same destination.

- TAXI
Three taxi ranks are in operation at Edinburgh Airport. The fleet of airport private vehicle taxis operate from the eastern end of the terminal building. The city's 'black cab' taxi rank is adjacent to the coach park. The third rank is located on the ground floor of the short stay multi storey car park and is available for taxis that have been pre booked.

A typical journey time to the city centre takes around 25 minutes and fares vary according to the distance traveled.
